One of the most exciting projects we’ve done on the boat is raising the mast. Now most people would be in a marina with a crane. But we used a fork lift. Yes the old Pettibone fired up for some delicate work.
Raising actually went really smooth. I think it probably took longer trying to rerun the lines than it did to raise and secure the mast. We didn’t run into any issues. We left it up for a couple of weeks so that we could check the lines, rigging, and add a few things we thought we might need. We also wanted to finish our shade and needed the boom up to verify clearance.
We also wanted to check our sails. We didn’t know what they looked like or what we even had. So here she is.
Surprise! We have a Storm Jib or Yankee sail. Making us a Cutter Rig. I really love the way she looks. For sails we ended up keeping the Jib, Storm Jib and of course the Main. We did have a large genoa which was an older sail and also an old main. Those are in storage for now until we can figure out if we need them for anything.
I don’t have a picture of the dodger, bimini, and shade curtains as we are still working on them. They are coming along nicely however. Sam is an excellent seamster.
I failed to get a picture of the sail pack and lazy jacks we created. They work like a charm. After all this hard work it’s nice to see things come together and work. Makes us even more excited to put her in the water and try everything out for real!
Stay tuned for the shade. and solar. They should be the next things finished.
