At times it feels like time is standing still and other times it feels as if it flies by. When we first arrived in Rio Vista we were both happy we had a place to launch but also stressed as we didn’t really have a plan B when we needed one and didn’t have enough time to research being here and getting out to the ocean. We had set a goal to be out of here around a certain time. So we had a lot of work to do. Not only getting Hiraya into the water but learning the area, weather patterns, currents, and wind. Not to mention planning our stops down the river, along the coast, and on the Mexico.
There is a lot you can accomplish in 3 weeks when you prioritize your to do list. We have checked off everything on that list. There is a high pressure kicking up the wind which will last through Tuesday. So the count down really is on. We are literally waiting for the wind to die down and then we must say “see ya later to our new friends”.
Wait, did I just say “wait until the wind dies down”? Yes I did. We have too much wind right now. It is gusting right now into the 30 – 35 knot range and it is just too much. We are on a sabbatical remember. No schedule really. Just an idea of where and when. Ideally we like the 10 – 20 knot range and will likely wait until conditions are ideal. There is going to be about a week of this 10 – 20 range of wind with moments of less from Wednesday on so we wait.
Back to the friends. As we have been busy getting ready we have had handfuls of people stop by to see what we are up to. Offer their knowledge of the area. Everything from fishing, sailing, anchorages, harbors, food, beverages, everything. What we love most is their kindness, stories, and smiles. The kindness we have been shown is overwhelming. The excitement and support they show is encouraging. Slowly we feel our souls being reawakened by the good side of humanity. These friends that we have made over the last three weeks are friends we will come back and say hi to one day.
Is it going to be this hard to leave every place we go? Probably not. Rio Vista is a special place. It is were this chapter of our life begins. It is where the spark of curiosity leads to an adventure of a life time. And in this adventure we hope to meet more friends hear more stories share more smiles. This will be an amazing adventure.
seems as though you two are having a ball, love ya
