While we sat anchored in the Harbor of Cedros Island we had an unexpected yet hilarious experience. We had returned to the boat after a day of exploring when I heard a sound. At first it sounded like running water. I start opening cabinets and Sam asks what I am doing. He obviously doesn’t hear what I do and I explain to him that I hear running water. He listens really hard for a few seconds while I try to make sense of the sound and not seeing any water in the bilge. He excitedly asks if I am cooking bacon, he looks at the stove in disappointment. In the two second it takes to realize it isn’t bacon cooking the horror sets in. Do we have a FIRE???!!! My frantic water searching turns to Sam franticly tearing the boat apart and me sniffing for fire or toxic smoke from melting plastic. Nothing. I calm Sam down while I grab the phone. Reassuring him if the boat was on fire my nose would know. The phone doesn’t have a data signal but I have a tiny bit a cell service which I get a text out to our daughter. I ask her to search “sizzling noise on boats in marina’s”. I remember reading somewhere about weird sounds you can hear. Some a big deal some not. I turn to see Sam on all fours, butt in the air, ear pressed to the floor of the boat. The sound is coming from the bilge or hull! He exclaims. Just then the phone dings and Kenz tells us we have new pets “snapping shrimp”. I didn’t know they were actually real!
That is hilarious!
We continue to laugh every time we hear them.
