Hot springs and Mexican Hospitality

We watch the sunrise over Agua Verde and head on out. It will take us a few hours to get to Sam Cosme. We are in luck as the tides will be just right to sit in the pools. We laugh to our selves a little and asking our selves why we would want to soak in hot springs when we are already a little warm.

We have eight miles to travel and we just motor on over. As we approach we can see that there is a panga running from the hot springs to the beach and a second panga running up to the beach as well. A few people on the beach and a few over by the hot springs. We wonder if it is going to be crowded. Or if it is a paid tour they could kick us out.

By the time we anchored the pangas have staid at the beach. There are four people in the area of the hot springs. As we paddle over we see them sit. They found them! But it looks like they are sitting very close together. Hopping that there is another spring we go over and investigate. We don’t want to disturb them or invite our selves in.

Before we had made our way over the sharp black lava rocks they are hollering at us and waving us over. They invite us in. There is plenty of room for all of us and a few more. But no one comes. These four are from Loreto. They so happen to be having a company party. The boss invites us for lunch. And not just sandwiches but full on chicken salad, tortillas, coca cola, chips, desert. Everything.

We feel bad that we don’t have anything to offer in return. They let us tell them stories of our sailing instead. They insist that they have enough to share and to please join them. We spend the next hour talking and munching. As we munch down on all the good food and laugh and listen the wind begins to pick up. That is our clue we need to be heading back out so that we don’t get pushed into the rocks.

We invited them over to the boat. Two want to come see. We exchange phone numbers and hope that our paths cross again. They head back to shore while we store everything and get ready to pull anchor. We check that our new friends are on shore and give a big wave. They wave good bye and we sail away. Hoping that one day our paths cross again.
